Comments about the Workshops:

Picture
"Short and Helpful Online Writer Workshops have been a tremendous asset in helping me grow as a writer. Each workshop is easy to access on-line, the presenters are all authentic writers themselves, and the presentations are only about 35 minutes long. Each video is packed with jewels of information. Heartily recommend these workshops to any writer wanting to improve their level of expertise."

Author of Cut From Strong Cloth, and Last Curtain Call.

Short & Helpful reaches a writer's need with simple, pointed, and very affordable tools. They've compiled from weak manuscripts what writers lack in craft, and developed solid products that assist writers to achieve a higher level of expertise. Excellent motivation and punches in the arm for the new and intermediate writer.

These right-to-the-point, pragmatic, internet-based, instructional seminars (or in S&H lingo, “webinars”) are offered by one dozen experienced, published, authors - one each month for a full year’s worth of practical writing guidance and interaction with writer-instructors, bolstered by valuable supplemental material, including videos, workbooks… a wealth of meaty instruction, a fresh approach, a unique opportunity to learn or improve writing skills at one’s own pace, in one’s own place.

I was invited to a prerelease viewing presented by Terry Fischer the Education Director for Short & Helpful. The presentation was the first workshop in a twelve-part series, which certainly lived up to its name.   I saw this offering as equivalent to a college course and purchased the first set immediately. My plans are to subscribe to the entire online series as I am in the process of writing a novel and hope to publish this year.  Having been in the field of developing and presenting workshops for teachers in the public schools, colleges, and universities over a number of years, I recommend, without reservation, this writing series.

The Short and Helpful Premise & Structure workshop by Catherine Jordan left me, for one thing, wanting for more. Clear information and examples led me to analyzing the way I structure my writing and helped me highlight the aspects which I now realize are vital to a well-defined and viable story outline.
The lecturer's narrating voice, combined with easy to read visual sides, results in an enjoyable half hour of learning (though I must admit I watched it twice). The integrated workbooks complete the lesson with the necessary consolidation. I have little doubt that this and the upcoming workshops will provide essential tips both for me and more seasoned authors.

About the Voice & Point-of-View Workshop:
Hartwell's explanations of Point of View are some of the best I've come across—first person, second person, third person limited, third person multiple, and omniscient—they are concise, and she gives good examples. I have been writing for several years and am always learning more about my chosen craft. Of all the classes and workshops I've attended, this course is one of the best.

About the Premise & Structure Workshop:
Just finished my first module, Premise and Structure, with Short & Helpful Online Writer Workshops, and wow! Even as a seasoned, published author, I learned valuable information. Can't wait for next month with Voice and Point of View. The price for these workshops is such a bargain when you realize how professional they are. An added bonus is the terrific workbook.
