Dixiane Hallaj always loved books. She reveled in the frequent moves her military family made because each move landed her in a new school with a library full of books she hadn’t read. She started her first novel at age twelve, writing in pencil on a yellow legal pad. Luckily, the novel did not make it to the second chapter.
Many years later, when one of her professors described her award-winning dissertation as a page-turner, she once again turned to serious writing. While writing her four novels (and counting), she spent a lot of time reading and reviewing independently published authors, she found amazing talent in many books, often marred by a lack of craft. Armed with a Ph.D. in Literacy and Adult Learning, she applied her efforts to creating opportunities for authors.
Terry Korth Fischer conducted training workshops during her thirty year career as a Point-of-Sale Specialist for IBM and NCR before retiring from IT to write full time. She is an active member of SinC, Pennwriters, Inc., and Clear Lake Area Writers where she regularly leads craft workshops. Her short stories can be found in The Write Place at The Write Time, and numerous anthologies. Terry lives in Houston, Texas where she is at work on a novel and a short story collection.
Dixiane Hallaj met Terry Korth Fischer over lunch at a writers’ conference, and their friendship blossomed into a cooperative venture. After corresponding for a year sculpting and shaping the details, Short & Helpful Online Writer Workshops was conceived.
